With National Tree planting day in mind last week, Dunsborough Lakes Golf Club members and volunteers in association with GeoCatch were hard at work planting 900 native plants adjacent to the 18th green.
Many thanks to Water Corporation for funding this initiative and to all who volunteered their time on Sunday.
URBAN QUARTER DUNSBOROUGH LAKES PRO AM
The third edition of the Dunsborough Lakes Pro Am was played on the last day of May. 33 groups of amateurs, predominantly club members, were each accompanied by a PGA Professional in a team format.
Victoria’s Michael Choi mastered the tough windy conditions and slick putting surfaces to compile a brilliant 4 under par 68 for a two shot victory. He prevailed over the talented trio of last year’s winner, Mat Jager, fellow Victorian Rory Bourke and local West Australian Braden Becker who won the previous day at Capel.
Choi, despite one double bogey chipped in twice for birdies and spectacularly holed a short iron second shot on the par 4 ninth for an eagle.
The winners of the team’s event were Linda Jenkins, Wayne Gould and Graham Hudson on a countback from Sally Chandler, Vivian Allan and Kaye Wright. In third place were Ned Dixon, Nick Tana and Al Gaukrodger.
Dunsborough Lakes Golf Club teaching professional, Marty Thomas, making a rare tournament appearance both surprised and delighted members with an even par 72 that elevated him to be amongst the established stars.
During presentations, the winner Choi, expressed his appreciation of the generous Urban Quarter sponsorship and highlighted the excellent presentation of the course by recently appointed Superintendent Oliver Bell and his team.
